Discovery Center Releases Conceptual Design

The Campus

The Four Corners School's Canyon Country Discovery Center campus will incorporate energy efficient technology into a design derived from the Colorado Plateau’s natural and human culture: a circular building/visitor's center connected to a south facing rectangular building.

The building will house all of Four Corners School's current programs and staff, as well as Discovery Institute for Conservation Education activities.

The campus will include:

State-of-the-art teaching, theatre, and conference space for 150 people
Separate small classroom and field laboratory
Small library and technology/computer center
Exhibit hall with hands-on interactive displays, experiments, and activities
Observatory and telescope for night sky viewing
Space to design and build exhibits
Greenhouse to serve as a living botanical laboratory
Modified bouldering wall and Discovery Store
Outdoor classroom elements such as a Nature Playscape
Warehouse for outfitting and storage space for vehicles
Car and bus parking lots
Outdoor teaching/learning, picnic, and playground areas (a pond, Amphitheatre, geostrata wall, constellation circles)
Computer infrastructure to store research data generated by residents, researchers, and staff
